Last week we covered UCLA Bruin Steve Alford’s 2 out 3 in motion offense but did you know Coach Alford was a DEAD EYE shooter at the NCAA and NBA level? Known as one of the best free throw shooter of all time, he holds the 9th best free throw percentage in NCAA history at .897.

Here are 3 shooting drills from NCAA’s highest scoring offense.

**Exclusive bonus:**I have turned this post into a printer friendly PDF. Download Steve Alford’s shooting drills here.

## 21 shooting

Coach Steve Alford says that Mike Miller runs this drill 6-7 times a day. The rules are simple, a layup is 1 point, mid range is 2 and 3 pointer is 3. You start with a layup, touch the mid court line. Then progress to 2 mid range then 3 point. Repeat until you get 21 points.

## Shoot for record

This is a great competitive drill, especially if you have multiple baskets with lots of players.

- In groups of 3, 1 shooter, 1 rebounder and 1 passer.
- Shooter takes a shot at 5 spots.
- Then take another 5 shots back through the 5 spots. Record 1 point for each shot made.
- Rotate shooter after 10 shots.
- After mid range shot, change shots to: shot fake, 1 dribble pullup.
- Then change shot to 3 pointer. For a total of 30 shots.

Select 1 basket as the winner’s basket. After 30 shots, the lowest score shooter has to rotate with the winner of another basket.

## 50 points

Shooting competition up to 50 points and as added bonus, work on free throws. 3 players with a ball each underneath basket.

- Spin passes, catch and shoot, rebound, spin, catch and shoot until one player makes 5 shots
- take 5 foul shots each
- spin and catch, shot fake, one-dribble pull-up, first to 5
- 5 foul shots each
- spin and catch, bank shots, first to 5
- 5 foul shots each
- spin and catch 3s, first to 5
- 15 foul shots
